Post Looking to start Road Cycling  Reply with quote
Hi All.

I'm looking to get back onto a bike, more determined since having been running for the past 2years.

I am looking to buy an entry level bike & have a R2500 budget excluding helmet, shoes & shorts.

I am fairly clueless in what i need to be looking for so please provide any advice you may on what bike might be best & any bike dealers that are reputable & might provide further knowledge on the subject (in Pretoria & Johannesburg)

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated, & i look forward to seeing you all on the road.

The Sportsbasement in Suninghill provide fair deals. When I was looking at a bike for cross training purposes I was also told that second hand is always a good option. Your budget might need some tweaking though, cycling is an expensive sport

Hi MBarnard,

Thank you for your advice.

I'm trying to find directions to the Sports Basement online & am coming up with nothing just branches in America.

Please may you post their contact details or Physical Address if you have either or both.

I'd like to visit them this weekend & see what they recommend, from there i'll set a benchmark for price & components relative to the amount i'm looking to spend(which i will tweak should there be no decent bikes @ this price)

If you looking for a road bike you going to struggle to get something decent for that price.

Mountain bike you'll get a SILVERBACK - STRIDE 30 for about R2500. This is decent entry level mountain bike. Helmet about R500.

Hi All,

Thanks for the Sports Basement Details.

I've been looking online & seen a few 2nd Hand Road bikes @ decent prices. If none of them are in a workable condition i'll up the Budget to R4000 - R5000, i've seen some bikes at this price, so i'll just take another month to look @ my options.

Thank you all for your advices. Please continue to post should you have any other insights into the matter.

Good thing you have planned cycling is a very good thing and should be done on regular basis,Basically what i feel is it should be a part of every human being.
It keeps you fit,Helps you a lot in gaining stamina and strength and develops your lower body.
