I would also suggest that you arrive earlier. †I remember seeing alot of traffic congestion for late comers at our last race. †Be there at 06h00, and you'll be fine.

I'm going there with my scooter  q14

After a bit of humming and harring, I eventually decided just to do the 10km race here and then hand out flyers for the CSIR race when I'd finished.

The race started in the same place as usual but finished on the sports filed adajacent to the stadium due to construction, but it seemed to work well. Entries were quick and painless but the race started a few minutes late due to the normal reason - the late arrival of the Metro Cops!

The 10km route is a fast one and you could certainly run a good time here if you put your head down. Starting at the back of a huge field meant that I got off to my normal slow start and just never made up the time - the fitness has dropped too much for that.

However, I ran steadily the whole way, just taking short walk breaks through the water points. Splits of 34:24 and 32:52 had me finishing in 1:07:16 - I was indeed pleased with the negative split and even more pleased when I finished that I wasn't running the 21km!

Got the usual medal and a goody bag, which contained a pack of dish scourers and a bag of cat food! Very unusual for a running goody bag. We don't own any cats but will give the cat food to a deserving family who does!

Marshalling was very good over some busy roads and water points did their job adequately. Finish area was festive, with some serious spot prizes including a washing machine being given away - the first time I've seen that at a race as well.

Saw JF marshalling early in the race and met, albeit briefly, Jaco for the first time as he finished - thanks for introducing yourself, Jaco!

So, a mere 20km for me this week in total as I make a small comeback after the winter lergy. But it's better than nothing! I do think that next week's Irene 21km may be a tad slow, though.

Finishing stone last is better than a "Did not Finish" which in turn, trumps a "Did not Start".
