Long Tom 2013
Does anyone know if they have finalised a date for Long tom this year yet? I have heard rumours of the date changing? I did this race for the first time last year and loved it. Perfect preparation for Comrades because for three months after it, any other hill seems like a joke in comparison!
Info from Abie Smit:
The 2013 Longtom Marathon, sceduled for 30 March (same day as Two Oceans) was officially cancelled on Monday because it was sceduled over a long weekend. The Tourism Board and the traffic departments felt that the pass could not be closed over a long weekend. Traffic department said they will not allow runners on the road over a long weekend. After a marathon meeting with AMPU, it was decided that (PLEASE NOTE): Longtom chahne date to 6 April and Pay-per-Kay change date to 27 April 2013! We trust that the fact that we are willing to offer our date to safe Longtom, will also gain us much needed support! See you at Pay-per-Kay on 27 April 2013!
Why is it that no one has a definite answer on this? Many people will do what emmy decided and just not go

Emmy, does a Puff and Pass.
If the race is back to the 30th, then it seems more likely that I will puff and pass. The 06th April is such a good date(for me that is).

Yesterday I talked to two guys and the 1 insist that the date has been moved and the other guy say that he called them yesterday and they said that they will have a meeting and by the weekend they will have a final date.
Can the organisers now please sort this out because it is messing with our plans
Apparently the later is more correct and a few ppl have called them and be told that the decision will be made this week during their meeting.

We have just been informed that the date of the race has been moved to Saturday 6th April 2013.
We are just busy updating the entry forms and website and it should be available by the end of this week.
Apologies for any inconvenience.

This is a yearly event with them. Always have to rush with accommodation at the very last minute. Still an awesome race though, if it's on 6 April I might just go through for my 3rd one.

Yip seems like there's a problem every years. I think it was 2 years ago when it was almost cancelled due to sponsor issues.
Such a iconic race, would be a pity if it should vanish from the running calendar.

Agreed, that's why we need to support it en masse!

This is one race, i think more people should support it.
It is such a beuatiful race except for the toughness. To me it's beter then Oceans, although many would not agree and that's why i say to me.

I wish I was fit enough.... Maybe I must go and to the 21. I have never done the Ultra, but did the 21 once before. Very beautiful, although, being a Capetonian, I will never say it is better than 2 Oceans.
